ANG News:
A Seventh Grader is Threatened With "Disciplinary Action" for Reading Her Bible Silently at Lunchtime.
This is absolutely amazing... complete ignorance and bias on the part of public school officials in Maryland. Imagine a lunchroom decorated with a sign that says, "Read to lead." Imagine other students quietly reading whatever they desire in the lunchroom, including some books with "vulgar material." Now imagine a school official singling out one quiet student and telling her that "reading a Bible was a violation of the school’s policy," and then threatening that, "she would be subject to more severe disciplinary action if she were ever found reading a Bible at school again."
Rant: Doesn't that just make your eyes bleed? This is what really gets me- this school official threatened to punish a seventh grader! I can remember times similar to this in my childhood where I felt helpless and confused. What do these officials think they're doing to these kids?
Amber Mangum is the name of the seventh grader who is now standing up for her rights against a school system that would teach her and her friends that reading the Bible deserves "disciplinary action." Please remember her in your prayers. Read more about this here.
Florida Public School Administrators Try to Ban a Student from Distributing Religious Material.
According to World Net Daily, an administrator banned students from distributing "religious" literature on campus. The literature included support for a "day or remembrance" set aside for remembering children who have lost their lives through abortion.
Nate Cordray, a student at Riverdale High School repeatedly made the request to hand out the literature, but Superintendent James Browder denied his request citing a board policy that banned any religious, political or proselytizing material. A federal district court upheld the school's right to ban the student from distributing such literature, but that decision was overturned and found unconstitutional by the court of appeals.
Nate Cordray's legal counsel stated, "Public schools may ban obscenity and libel, but religious and political speech does not stop at the schoolhouse door. Banning religious speech sends the wrong message that religion is taboo or second class, which proposition neither this court nor the Constitution is willing to tolerate. Educators need education about American history and the Constitution."
We, at A New Guard, congratulate Mr. Cordray's willingness to stand up for his religious rights, despite the opposition.

Blog/News: High School Valedictorian Shut Down Mid-Speech at Graduation Ceremony!
This is a great story! Brittany McComb was just like any other high school student- just like you and me. Well, except for the fact that she paid attention in school, earned the highest possible class ranking and was actually allowed to (kinda) speak at her graduation. I’m pretty sure that most of the public high school seniors at my school were still trying to learn how to speak Eñgläsh by the time they gragatated, gradiated, graduAted. Whatever. The point is Ms. Mc Comb had worked hard enough to earn the right to (kinda) speak at this meaningful event. As the ceremony unfolded, Brittany was speaking, the audience was listening, the birds were chirping, the sun was shining… that is until she did the unthinkable. In fact, her actions caused her to visage to be plastered across national news everywhere. Did she swear? No. Did she wrap a fat one and smoke it at the podium? No... Worse. She said the “G word.” My gosh, I feel too dirty to even type it. In fact, (and parents, I pray that your computer’s parental controls will eliminate the following statement before anyone younger than dead reads it.) the last thing she said before she was so deservingly shut off was, “God’s love is so great that…” then "they" pulled the PA off-line. They actually shut her down, sat her down and let the person following speak in her place! In fact, after minutes of the audience raining boos onto the stage in response to Ms. Mc Comb’s censorship, the administration had the gall to say, “The next speaker is so-and-so… and we’d like you to please give her your attention. She deserves this.” The Rutherford Institute has picked up her case. Read more about this here. Please pray for her. We, at A New Guard, know what she’s about to face for her decision to actually live out her faith and her freedoms.
We’re with you Brittany.
